Piston-Single Engine Aircraft – SEP Renewal

Piston-Single-Engine Piston aircraft – SEP (ing. Single-Engine Piston), you can renew your class/type rating for single-engine aircraft at NorthFLY Flight Academy.

What is a SEP Renewal Flight?

An SEP renewal flight is a check with the flight instructor/examiner before or after the expiry of the validity period of the single-engine aircraft class authorization to see if the pilot is able to maintain his/her flying skills. If it is seen after the check that the pilot meets the qualification level determined by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the authorization validity period is extended.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I renew my SEP after it expires?

If there is an examiner at the institution where you will renew your license, yes, you can. To renew your license at our institution, please see “What are the requirements for SEP renewal at your institution?”.

A Private Pilot License – PPL(A) is the certificate you get when you finish the first stage of your pilot training. The flight authorizations you can perform with this certificate are indicated on the right side of your license. The meaning of SEP written in that section is as follows; It means the validity date when you can use piston-single engine – SEP class aircraft with a PPL license. In summary, in order to perform a flight, you need to check the validity dates in the authorizations section on the right side of your license. If your SEP has expired or is about to expire, you need to extend your SEP by making a renewal flight in order to continue your flights.

Your license has not expired, you have flown 12 hours in the last 1 year and at least 6 hours of these flights have been PIC, you have 12 landings in the last 1 year, you have or will be able to operate the “ICAO level” English level data on your license. If you do not meet these conditions, our institution can request an external Examiner on your behalf and you can extend your SEP validity period in our institution.

You are required to fly 1 hour with an instructor pilot or a check pilot.

If you meet the necessary requirements, you can do it with NorthFly Flight Academy instructors. If you do not meet these requirements, you will need to perform the flight with the examiner assigned by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Refresher flight: A flight performed by pilots who do not meet the requirements of the last period (having flown as dual controller or PIC within the last 90 days). SEP renewal flight, on the other hand, is the extension of the validity period of the authorization as a result of checking whether the pilot can maintain his/her flight skills with the flight instructor/examiner before or after the expiry of the validity period.

Yes. If flight requirements such as air movements, en route procedures, emergency procedures are checked and deemed sufficient, the SEP validity period is extended.

After your flight, your documents will be sent to DGCA for the renewal of your license. You will receive your extended license within 7-10 days on average.
